Ask and Answer Questions Mini-Lessons
This unit includes the following interactive lessons on Google Slides:
- Ask and Answer Questions About Books: Understand why asking and answering questions about books is important.
- What Are Questions?: Explain that a question is an asking sentence.
- How Do I Ask Questions: Use question words, such as who, what, where, when, why, and how.
- Writing Questions: Write questions with an uppercase letter at the beginning and a question mark at the end.
- Questions About Books: Ask questions before, during, and after reading.
- What Are Answers?: Explain that an answer is the information the question asked for.
- Writing Answers: Write answers with an uppercase letter at the beginning and a period at the end.
- Answers About Books: Answer questions about books.
Lessons are created for distance learning, but would also be a fun and engaging way to use technology to enhance lessons in the traditional classroom using an interactive whiteboard.

- Questions Before Reading (2 pages): Practice answering questions before reading by using the title and cover as support for answers.
- BDA Graphic Organizer (1 page): Graphic organizer to record questions before, during, and after reading any book.
- Match the Answer (3 pages): Read simple answers and match the question. Visual aids are included!
- Read It, Write It: Answers (3 pages): Writing practice. Includes tracing for printable version, or text entry boxes for digital use.
- Kindergarten Reading Passages (5 pages): Practice asking and answering questions about key details in texts with and without support. Texts feature CVC words, Fry’s first hundred sight words, and repetition to aid decoding.
Teacher Tips
- Accessing the Google Slides: Your download will include a PDF with links to the Google Slides. When prompted, click “Make a Copy” to save to your Google Drive.
- Creating an Assignment: When assigning the activities, first make a copy of the slide deck. Then, remove any slides you do NOT want assigned.
- Personalize the Lessons: Check out videos on YouTube for steps to add your voice-over to the lesson slides so YOU can be the one teaching your students. It’s super easy to do and is a great way to personalize your distance learning lessons!
